Postpartum Depression

I think I might have PPD

Hello, I am Heather. My baby is almost 10 months. I am not sure what the diff is between reg depression and PPD.

This is what is going on with me.

I don't like to go out by myself  because I feel like I am neglecting my family.

I can't sleep well.

I don't like talking to people on the phone or going on play dates with other moms....I really want to though!

I feel like I can never get enough stuff done and never give myself any down time.

Some days I don't even want to get dressed or do anything.

The list goes on.... I just feel like crap!

I scheduled an appt with my doc but they can't see me till the 17th!

Seeing your doc is a great first step. If you feel like you can't make it to the 17th, call back and see if she can refer you to a therapist (that's what I did - my doc was actually on vacation when I called for help!). Good luck - let us know how you're doing.

Thanks. My doc is on vacation till then that is why it will be so far out. Can I just find a therapist? Is it just a regular therapist I am looking for or a special one? Thanks for all the help.

Your OB's office can probably refer you to the best one to see for PPD related issues (my doc's office had a list of a few they and I called around and found one who took me the next day!)

Also, check with your insurance company - they might have recommendations as well.

  • Although I'm no MD, I'd say that if you never had depression or anxiety pre-pregnant, then this is probably PPD. I have a history of major depression and anxiety, so they put me on meds at 2 weeks post partum. The ways you are describing how you feel could be either. I would feel like that a lot when I wasn't pregnant. But the meds they use to treat it are the same. I've been on 40mg Celexa and just now I am starting to feel awesome! You are definitely not alone. Hang in there!!! It will get lots better.

I have been on meds before for depression. We suffered 3 m/c trying to have our little girl. It just seems like when things kinda suck it really gets me down, I try not to get that way but the littlest things just make me feel so sad and hopeless. I just really hate life sometimes. I have good days but it seems that they aren't full days something always pushes me into a sadness or some sorts.
