When did you take your twins out by yourself?

My girls are three weeks old today. I am going STIR CRAZY at home. I know they are too little yet for a trip to the mall, etc, but I feel i'm ready to head out somewhere for something. I look forward to DH getting home at night just so I can go mow the grass or go for a walk. When did you feel comfortable packing up everything needed for twins and head out somewhere?

In terms of taking them out in public places, I don't think we did it until our DDs were about 3 months old and started daycare.  However, they were semi-preemies (35w6d) and born in the height of flu/RSV season (end of December) so we were a little paranoid.  I probably took them on neighborhood walks earlier than that, but that would have been more weather dependent.  If my DDs were the age of yours now, I'd probably be walking the neighborhood a good bit more, particularly if you're not likely to run into a lot of people.

  • The pedi cleared them for outings at 1.5 weeks so I took them to the mall that weekend.  I had to get out of the house.  I wasn't alone though.  I had my mom with me.  It worked out pretty well b/c they slept the whole time.

  • I took  them to Whole Foods when they were 2 weeks old, but I didnt start taking them places regularly or often until they were much older (like 4-5 months).  But I did that mainly because it took me that long to figure out the logistics and get enough guts.

  • I took both of them out by myself when they were 1.5 months for walks and short errands. I felt confident enough to be able to run one errand right after their bottle, it wasn't until 6ish months that I braved running more than one long errand again right after a bottle. The only place I had any worries over was taking them grocery shopping at 7months, the logistics of it had me so freaked out over it. Now we go every week without any problems, just don't get in my way on the way in, haha. I don't can't remember a time that I was by myself and had to feed either one, I try to plan errands around feedings so that we minimize meltdowns.

  • DD was in NICU for 4 weeks so probably the first trip I did by myself was the doctor's for my 6 week OB follow up.  After that I took them out on a regular basis.  The DSNG is awesome and they because great little travelers.  If DD would have been home, I probably still would have waited until after 4 weeks because of not exposing them to people and I had a tough csection recovery.

  • we started heading out regularly at about 6 weeks...before then I was usually way too tired to trust myselft driving much...
  • 5 minute walk to Starbucks in the stroller 2 weeks. Costco was my first real "outing" with them at about 2.5 months.

  • I started taking the girls out by myself at 4 weeks.  Target, the grocery store, and the mall were my main destinations.   Just feed and change the babies immediately after a nap and get out the door as quickly as you can.  Keep the sun shields up on their infant seats/stoller and that will help keep people from touching them.  Although I had plenty of looky-loos, I never actually had anyone try to touch my girls when I was out and about.  Best of luck!

  • This past Monday I took the girls with me to a wake.  My friend's mom had died and it was my first day alone with the girls (the grandmas had been here since we got home from the hospital).  It was a little over an hour drive on the highway.  Amanda cried for about 5 minutes on the way there and on the way home, but she eventually stopped.

They've been lots of other places too, but I've had help.  They've been to a band concert at my son's school, the grocery store, and to Chilis for dinner!  I say take them out...they will probably sleep the whole time!

  • I didn't take mine out because they were preemies and it was cold and flu season also.  But today I took them to a dr. app by myself for the first time (good timesIndifferent.  I took them to Big Lots to buy a rocking chair by myself last week.  Again good times.  But as far as just leaving the house with someone helping me... the first place I took them was to church and they were 10 weeks old.

  • eight weeks I took them out by myself and I do regularly now.  We didn't before then because we weren't cleared by the pedi, not that I "had" to follow him, but it was winter and I just figured we were better off.
  • We took them out at 1 week, but I didn't take them out alone until about 8 weeks. We kept the sun visors as closed as possible until the last few weeks due to flu and rsv.
  • We took them out at 1week 2 days (me and DH). I took them alone at 4 weeks
