Great! I have PPD

I've just been to the doctors. I haven't been well in the last 2 months or so and got bloods done 2 weeks ago that came back fine. I've a million symptoms; exhaustion, pains, headaches .... and she mentioned then that it could be Post Partum Depression. I didn't think so since I did feel depressed for a few weeks after DS#3 came along but felt fine after that. But now she's convinced that I definitely have it. All my sympoms fit.

Just hearing that has made me depressed!  I have to start pills for about 6 month and see how I get on. She said I should be feeling much better in 2 weeks. I bought the pills and they cost me ?40 for 4 weeks supply! Bloody 'ell that's expensive! Another reason to be depressed.

The pills are called: Lexapro. Anybody else on them? How did you get on?

This is crap. Sad I feel like a failure!! I know that's probably really un-PC but I don't care right now. Damnit anyway!

  • ((hugs)) You aren't a failure!  I hope you feel better very soon!
  • (((HUGS)))

You ARE NOT a failure. A failure wouldn't do anything about it. You have to take care of yourself. I hope you feel better soon.

  • How can you be a failure because of a chemical imbalance?

I had it badly with both kids, and struggled through for months. With DD I finally got on some meds, and it made a world of difference. I weaned myself off a month ago, and feel almost completely normal-- I won't be 100% until I finish nursing DD.

  • Of all the things those symptoms could be, I would think PPD is the "best" diagnosis to get, no????  Quick, 6 month fix, and then you are back to normal!

Its ok, don't kick yourself about it, it happens.

  • I agree with everyone else, its not your fault!

    Hugs!

Thanks girls. I needed that. And yes, I suppose it is the best diagnosis out of some awful ones I could have got.

    Thank you for your support!

  • Don't feel like a failure.  You went and got help for it, and that's a lot more than some do!  I had it with both girls.

I took Lexapro with my first DD.  It was the best I'd tried.  Good luck with it!
