Trying to Get Pregnant

Sperm Analysis

Anyone know the average cost of a SA with no insurance? My DH currently does not have health insurance. I am just wondering. . .in case it is in our future.

Re: Sperm Analysis

  • I don't know BUT any particular reason you aren't covering him under your insurance (I presume you have it)?

  • A semen analysis can cost somewhere around $100-$150 out of pocket, from what I have been told.

  • I am told it would be between 400.00- 500.00 a month to carry him on my insurance. We can't afford that. We are currently looking for private insurance for him.

This. Obviously insurance laws/rates vary state to state, though.

The family plan (children only) is about 200-300 per month.. .  adding husband makes it sky-rocket.

I guess the rates/laws do vary. I am a NC teacher; here is a link to what my insurance costs would be with adding spouse and/or children:

    https://statehealthplan.state.nc.us/pdf/emp_rate_sheet_2010-2011.pdf

The first listing applies to me. I am also a fairly new teacher (4 years) so my salary isn't that great.

My DH had it done about a year ago.  It was around $200 and insurance didn't cover it.

Thanks for sharing. Very different (Union?). Especially since the State contributes. Ha - NY contributing to anything other than debt? Not so much.

MH's insurance didn't cover his SA (we found out about 3 months later).  It cost $100.

What do you think daycare is going to run you?

Or better yet, you get in a car accident. Or 100 other things. It is straight up irresponsible to go without insurance. Private with a high deductible isn't that much.

Glad you're here Kdodge! We have accident insurance and hospitalization insurance which is very inexpensive but good coverage for DH and I. As far as health insurance goes, he has been covered until recently and that is why I stated earlier that we are looking for private insurance. Maybe you didn't see that? Also, as far as child care goes. . . that is already covered at little or no cost. . . I have a recently retired, medeling mother in law who is dying to babysit if she only had grandchildren. My mother is also interested in babysitting when she can, so as I see it, that base is covered. If not, I will find someone in-home and that will be much cheaper than daycare. Big Smile

  • I'm looking at the bill for DH's SA and while insurance covered it the total charged was $89.00. Seems kinda low compared to the other quotes on the board but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Okay, thanks Tay and other posters for giving me your figures. It's nice to have a price range in mind in case we have to have a SA done.
