Anyone go through this? Skull x-ray for DS.

I'm jumping over here a few weeks early to see if any other mamas have went through this?

DS had a docs appt today, and the doctor told me he was concerned that J's soft spot is really hard to find. I have mentioned this to him before, but he had never said anything about it. DS had a head ultrasound in the hospital when he was born for this very reason. The pedi said that his soft spot was extremely hard to find, but the ultrasound tech found it right away. I had to follow up with the pedi or 6 weeks because he was concerned about DS's head being too big. But after 6 weeks he said that his head was growing just as it should. But now, all of a sudden our family doctor is concerned about not being able to find the soft spot very well, and he is sending J for a skull x-rau tomorrow. I am really freaking out now! He said that since J isn't having any symptoms like vomiting, or irritability he thinks he's fine. But I just wondered if anyone else has ever went through this and how it turned out? Sorry for the rambling, but I'm just kind of worried.

TIA!

  • We go tomorrow too. Pedi said at 9 month app that her head was very large and that we had to monitor it, so if it jumped at her 12 month app we would get an ultrasound. When I came home and told H, he wanted it done now( for other reasons). Pedi said it could mean fluid around the brain or just that she has a big head. Nothing mentioned about her soft spot just that is where the ultrasound is done through. Not going to lie I am worried but glad we are doing it now rather than later. DD has always had a big head and is now off the charts

    6months -90%

    now off the charts

She also doesn't have irritability or vomitting and doesn't seem to be delayed. I hope we both get good results tomorrow.

  • Not for the same reason- but we did an MRI when he was days old and skull x-rays just a few months ago to determine if we should get him a helmet/band thingy.  We were at a children's hospital and the techs were awesome.  The MRI was fairly awful- but the x-rays weren't bad at all.  He did cry during the procedure but I think that was partially because it was nap time and he was over tired from being at the dr. all morning.  The x-rays procedure itself didn't take long at all.  He just had to lay on a big table and the tech had to hold his head still and they got what they needed.  I was able to stay next to him the entire time.

If you can go to a children's hospital that would probably be best since they are used to working with little kiddos.

Yeah, I think things like this are harder on the parents than they are on the kids. I wish we were going to a children's hospital. We kind of live in the middle of nowhere, so the nearest children's hospital is over an hour away. But hopefully it's over and done with quickly!

  • My LO had x-rays to check and see if his torticollis was caused by skeletal issues or muscular.  His is muscular.  He also hat a C/T scan to see if his plates had fused early causing him to have a misshapen head.  Luckily, they weren't fused, and once he can sit, crawl, etc, his head should round out.  Neither was a big deal.  He got to keep his pacifier in for the x-ray, so that kept him calm.
