Pack and play....necessary?

Hello ladies, I am in the process of registering for items. I can't decide if I should register for a pack and play. Right now we're in a small apt and do not need. We will be moving to a house sometime in the near future, possibly even before baby's arrival. If we were in a house, I can see how it could be useful for napping in living room areas rather than nursery. We have bassinet for our bedroom, I know that is what some use P&P for in the beginning. Thanks for your help. If you love yours, what kind do you have?!

Re: Pack and play....necessary?

  • we have two pnps one that is in our living room for naps..or whatever and one that we leave at my MIL house, she is going to be watching him while I am at work so he needs somewhere to nap...both are graco...the one at home has owls on it and the other one is plaid or something...

This is mine, I love it.  DS naps in it all the time.  It has lights, plays music and other sounds, and vibrates.

  • We had a bassinet for our bedroom as well ,but for the first few weeks we used the P&P in the living room as his sleeping area. It was just easier for me while recovering because it was close to the kitchen and the bathroom and gave the bedroom up to my husband who needed good sleep before work. As for now we don't use it too often ,but once it hits summertime we will again when we are doing family outings.

  • We live in a small house and do not have one and are just fine. We also have a bassinet in our room that he sleeps in at night. When he naps he is either in the swing, bouncer, or crib. I can see needing one if we traveled a lot or if he will be going to the grandparents a lot but as of right now we haven't need one.?

  • We have a small house, so we do not have one. Our bassinet is on wheels, so we always just moved it to the living room if we wanted to use it there.

We have one in our living room for naps and diaper changes, since his room is upstairs.  My friend got one swore she would never use it, but with the nice weather, she takes it outside all the time now.  Why not register for one?  It's small enough to store for now in case you do get a house soon and you can always return it if you need something more important.
  • We use ours as a nap space.  We will also take it when we travel.  It's nice to take to my mom's or MIL if we're going to be there so DD can nap as well.

  • We left ours at my parents for sleep overs.  LO & I stay there a few nights a month so it's nice to not have to lug it back & forth.  Otherwise I don't have a need for one at our house, and my IL's have one at their place too.

  • Register and keep the receipt just in case - you don't want to be stuck running out to buy things you thought you didn't need - that happened to me and it sucked!
  • We use our pack n play all the time.  We keep it on the 1st floor of our house and he sleeps in there during the day.  We also use the changing table on it all day long.  He actually gets more diaper changes on the pack n play than he does in the nursery.  I think it really just depends on the layout of your house and how you plan to use it.

It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

This is the same for us too.  We have a p&p that someone gave us, but it hasn't been used.

  • We live in a 2 storey and I use my pnp everyday for ds#2.  We have the Graco with change station and it is soo handy not to run upstairs to the nursery every diaper change.

We have a 3 story house and don't have one and it hasn't been a problem.
  • i think it's necessary, at least for us.  he spends most of the day in it, his swing, or my arms.

  • I love mine! I have the Graco one. Elena is napping in the PNP right now! I know that it is definitely a necessity for me.

  • I would be lost without mine! It is the only thing DD will sleep in at night! We have the Graco utopia! I love the infant bassinet feature and the change table is so convenient!
  • I don't think its necessary but I really like having one ... when we first brought lo home from the hospital, we set it up right next to our bed and she slept in the bassinet ... made more sense to purchase a pack n play that we could get additional use out of then purchasing a bassinet. Once she started sleeping in her crib, we now use it in the living room for naps and to change her. I really have gotten a lot of use out of it.
