Spelling ideas please!

DH and I want..

Riley Ray for a girl... just not spelled that way. Just wanted you guys to know how to say it.

We are leaning towards Reilly Rhae...

Other ways to spell Reilly?

And mainly what ways to spell Ray for a girl? Ray is DH's middle name if you are curious how we came to it.

Thanks!!!

Re: Spelling ideas please!

  • Why do you feel the need to make things hard? Keep it Riley so your daughter doesn't have to go around spelling her name a million times a year for the rest of her life. Rae is a feminine spelling of Ray.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • My middle name is Ray, but it is spelled Rae.  My dad's name is Ray (Raymond) and so they gave me the feminine version of his name for my middle.  I love my middle name, but for a girl I would certainly spell is Rae instead of Ray.
  • Reilly Rhae <--- YUCK!

    weird spellings are terrible.

  • Not sure about Riley, but I like the spelling Rae for a girl.

  • I'd stick with Riley.

However, for a girl, I like Rae better than Ray. (Of course, my middle name is Mae, so...)

  • Yes we are NOT doing Ray for the middle name.. it was either gonna be Rhae of Rae

  • Definitely Rae. I know a number of people with this as their middle name. Riley is the most obvious spelling, but if don't mind correcting people spell it Reilly. There is a store called O'Reilly so it doesn't seem that unusual to me.
  • For almost a year Riley Rae was our number one name for a girl. Reilly is okay but Rhae looks awful..Sorry! Rae is a lot better IMO

     No need for sorry!

I wasnt thrilled with spellings either, hence why I am asking. =]

  • The way you are choosing to spell it looks sort of exotic.... and I like it!! I know most ppl hate unique spellings of names, because it's deemed "untradtional" or "made up"... but EVERY single name out there is made up.  Kudos to you! Yes
  • Riley Rae. Don't mess with a good thing.

    Ray, Rae, Rhae,

I say spell it however you like it. Riley is kind of like Kailey- there are a million ways to spell it and all of them are legitimate (imo).

That being said, I think Riley Ray is technically a gender-neutral name, and Riley Ray seems to be the most masculine spelling (again, IMO).

My personal fave if you want super girly is Ryleigh Rae. Medium girly would be Rylie Rae. I teach a girl with German parents and she is Reilly, since that is the traditional German spelling.

Thank you for all the options!

My middle name is Leigh... But seeing Ryleigh I am really liking that. Probably because of my middle name! haaha

My sister's middle name is "Rae". I like it that way, it makes it more girlier than just Ray.

  • I don't think you should make up new spellings.  The poor kid will be spelling her name everywhere she goes.  It's bad enough she'll be known as Riley J. (or whatever your last initial is).  I know like literally between 5-10 baby Rileys.  It's a cute name, but when those kids get to school it'll be like Jennifers when I was a kid.

I wasnt making up new spelling for any of it.

I only know of one other Riley little girl. Im sure it is becoming more popular. You cant always get away with having a name no one else has unless completely making up a name.
