Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Question for anyone that has a LO with a broken limb...

My daughter fell last night right before bath time.  She got right back up but when I was taking her clothes off she would't stand up.  She eventually did but won't put much weight on her right foot/leg.  She never cried or fussed about it.

So, this morning she wakes up and she will walk but there is a noticeable limp from time to time.  Sometimes she limps and sometimes she is fine.  I sent her to her sitter and told her to keep an eye on it but I am now wondering if I should just have it checked out.

I don't know if I think she broke anything or not but I am concerned since she is limping.  Any advice would be appreciated!!  Thanks!

I would probably take her in.  I know with toddlers they can easily have a slight fracture and still somewhat function.

  • If nothing else, I think you should call your pediatrician. Finn fractured his arm when he was ten months old. I knew right away because he was crawling at the time and he couldn't/wouldn't push up on it. Breaks at this age are often called greenstick fractures or buckle fractures because the bone is still so flexible, and they heal very quickly, but they do need to be treated.
  • Thank you ladies!  I called the nurse line and she said to watch it over the next few days and if she continues to favor her other leg/foot to bring her in.  I wiggled her leg, rolled her ankle around, squeezed all over and she never flinched so the nurse thinks she may have just twisted something and that it would heal on its own.

    Thanks again!
