I'm having my glucose test this week at 8:30am, but i need to eat something before I go- should I be ok with an english muffin of a bagel?

  • You probably want to eat protein, not pure starch.

  • My doctor just said nothing too sugary.  So no kids' cereal.

    I just ate some toast.

I was told to eat like I normally do....so I think my breakfast that day was more than likely a bagel with honey nut cream cheese. (I was on a kick and eating the same thing for breakfast for a looong time...)

  • You are going to be best off eating protein, like eggs.  Eating pure carbs or sugary foods will effect your starting sugar and could have an effect on your one hour.

My OB gave a me directions to eat exactly 3 hours before drinking Glucola. I could choose one of the following: cereal and 2% or less milk OR toast with jelly or jam OR 6-8 oz. of yogurt.

I could drink as much water as I wanted before the test, but could not chew mints or gum between drinking the Glucola and the test.

This was for the 1 hour test and I was given the drink to have at home.

  • I have mine Wednesday morning and my OB told me to eat a high protein breakfast, she advised the best thing would be just to have some eggs, so that is what I will be eating.
  • I was also told to eat like I normally would before the one hour.  The point of the test is to see how you metabolize on a normal day, so it would make sense to eat whatever you would normally eat.

  • I ate eggs and drank water for breakfast that morning just to be safe and made sure I had finished eating one hour before I went in for my test. I passed, so something in my madness worked!!!

  • For my one hour I ate a plain bagel (half) and half of a banana. I FAILED the test and have to go back to have the three hour one done in which I will have to fast :0( Good luck!

  • I ate an English muffin before mine, and passed.
  • My doctor told me a bland breakfast was fine. Oatmeal or dry toast was ideal.
  • I was told no sweets.  I had a scrambled egg sandwich on toast

  • I ate cottage cheese and pineapple 2 hrs before mine and found out today I passed (had a level 110 when cut off was 140). I don't think I'd eat anything less than an hour before the test though.
  • Mine is Wednesday morning and my doctor told me not to eat before.
