My DD#2 has very curly hair and I'm at a loss as to how to keep it looking OK and not like a complete fuzz ball Her hair is still just starting to grow in so it's all curls close to her head now. After a bath or if it is humid her ringlets are defined and super super curly. After playing, laying, rubbing her hair it gets all fuzzy and looks like a mad professor
I don't her hair to look like I am using any "product" really (no gel or hairspray etc) but is there something out that is made for really curly hair for toddlers? thanks
Re: Moms of girls with curls
My sister has insane curly ringlets. What works for her -
Keep it trimmed regularly so it doesn't snarl up into a giant brillo pad.
Don't wash it every day or it will dry out more.
Only comb it out when wet, then leave it alone.
If you spray it with leave-in conditioner that helps. You could do that, maybe watered down, after her nap to fluff it back up again.
She has to sleep in braids, otherwise, brillo pad puff.

one thought is to use leave in conditioner - a lot of it! and not to rub her head with a towel after a bath but instead to let it dry naturally. Some curly girls on here 'plop' their hair (tie it up in a cotton tshirt) to absorb some of the water.
when she touches it/plays with it, yes it will get frizzier through the day. a spray bottle with water will help refresh the curls a bit.
I use non-sulfare products on my hair (e.g. Deva curl) from my salon but now you can get sulfate free shampoo and conditioner off the shelves...
Also, my hairdresser only recommends cutting it twice a year. Not sure that is feasible for a toddler!
I kinda posted about this last night....Kori responded there also!
I use a leave-in conditioner to keep it from getting too dry. Then when I 'do' it in the mornings, I use a spray get (moderate hold) by Herbal Essence. It doesn't make it crunch at all, but does a fair job of keeping the curls defined. If it is a long car ride I'll rewet it when we get there (just with my hands and bottle of water) to re-activate the gel.
Lots and lots of leave-in conditioner. After a bath, I use mine - it's a garnier fructis no-frizz something or other. It's too much for dry hair though. I've also used Maya Papaya. Oh - don't wash her hair everyday. Curly hair needs to have some oils built up on it. On the days I don't wash, I use a spray-in conditioner. I have lots of different stuff - Paul Mitchell for kids is really really good. I also use a cheapy Suave for Kids and it's almost as good.
DD is almost 2 1/2 and I haven't had her haircut yet, but it's time - it's more frizzy than usual (that could be the weather too) and I think she needs the old ends cut off. I'm a little afraid. She's NOT going to like it.
Per my hairstylists recommendation, I've been using Infusium 23 leave in on DD's curly hair. It's been great to keep the curls smooth and shiny looking. Her hair doesn't get as frizzy anymore either. I just put it on after her bath at night. In the morning, I spray her hair to wet it and put some more in and she's good to go for the day.
