I would love to hear the opinions of people from Arizona (or other borders states like Texas). What do you think of the proposed Arizona law? How do illegal immigrants affect you?
I am from Texas and just answered in the OP. Illegal immigrants are everywhere here. In the poorer parts of our state and those near the border our schools, hospital and other govt agencies are stretched to the limit.
My BIL is hispanic and a leagal citizen, he is all for this law. Texas is actually considering one like it and he is fine with it. He is very likely to be pulled over and asked for idetification, he has no problem with it and actuallyc caries a passport card around with him in his wallet. To him the inconvience of being asked for proof of citizenship far outweighs the problems that illegal immigrants cause our state.

Where are you getting your info from? There are people here that were talking about adopting a similar law but even our Governor, Mr. Right Wing himself, said he would have that law here in Texas. Although I'm sure his reasoning for not wanting it here in Texas has more to do with business and not potential racial profiling.
I just emailed 3 of my cousins who are all naturalized citizens. One is from Mexico, one from England, and one from Germany. The one from Mexico lives in CA and supports the AZ bill. The other two said they don't care when they are asked for proof of citizenship, but that it doesn't happen very often. They said Americans in England and Germany have to carry proof of legal residency.
I have sympathy for illegal immigrants, but they *are* here illegally. Seriously, if they were immigrating into any other country, would they get food stamps, cash assistance, and medical benefits WITHOUT citizenship? It's ridiculous! If I have to provide proof of citizenship, so be it.
I am worried that the law will cause more harm than good, but something needs to be done.
