Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Excessive sleeping?

My DS slept from 10:15-3:45 am, and then from 4:15am to 6:30am.  He was up for a few hours and then slept from 9am and is still sleeping.  I did wake him up to eat at some point but he just continues to fall back asleep.  He usually only sleeps 2-3 hours at a time.  Should I worry?

Re: Excessive sleeping?

  • Is he eating normally?  Wetting diapers?  Do you think he might have a fever?

He may just be going through a growth spurt.  However, if it continues, I would still call the pedi.

I wouldn't worry and I don't even consider that "excessive."

Last night DS slept from 9-2, 2:10-5:30, 5:40-8:30, and is now down for his 2-3 hour nap that he always takes.

    Enjoy it!

  • I wouldn't worry unless you aren't having enough wet diapers or your LO has a fever. Most likely from the age of your LO it is the start of a growth spurt. DD started STTN at that age as well he may just be adjusting.

That doesn't sound excessive. Babies need a lot of sleep. He could be going through a growth spurt too. DD sleeps a lot during growth spurts.
