Gulf Oil Spill: animals in peril :(

I've been avoiding any and all news about the oil rig disaster, because I just can't handle more depressing news these days, and I am very sensitive to any animal story sadness.  But I caught this this morning on HuffPo, and lordy I feel like crying.  I feel so helpless.  I feel like dropping everything, traveling down to the Gulf and washing birds with Dawn all day.  lol and ugh.

Drill, baby, drill.

I said the same thing to MH!  So sad=(

  • it makes me sick.  last time we went home, we spotted birds on the beach that we'd never seen there before. the MS coast was looking good.  better than it had in years.  now my bil is out of biz... he's a shrimper.  I don't know what their gonna do.  mil told me BP will pay him to help clean up, but then that voids him from any settlements due to lost biz.  they make a lot of $  during a good shrimp season... enough to live off of for most of the year .... he does contract work too... but we'll see.

  • We live here and I signed up to volunteer this morning.  If the oil comes on shore in FL or they need help I'm there.  It's so sad because this section of the state relies heavily on tourism and this is going to ruin an already depressed economy here.  Not to mention the environmental implications.  So sad.
