Before I went in for my C-section I was given some antacids by the hospital. Tell them you have heartburn when you get there and they should be able to give you something safe.

I have a c-section scheduled for 2:00, but woke up w/ terrible heartburn. Am I allowed a couple Tums and maybe some water?
I'll call the office, but they don't open for another hour, so any insight would be great.
TIA
I'm thinking they'll say no unfortunately. You're not supposed to have anything in your stomach, but then again, when people have emergency c's, they may have things in their stomachs... so I guess proceed at your own risk FWIW, I had a scheduled C and didn't have anything to eat or drink as of midnight the night before, and I was fine - no nausea or any problems whatsoever. Good luck and see you over here soon!

It's best to avoid all foods & fluids prior to surgery due to risk of vomiting/aspirating w/anesthetic medications. They can give you something at the hospital for your tum, if needed.

This. It can't hurt to call and ask, but expect them to say no. If they say it's ok, then it's a bonus, right? :-) good luck today. In a few hours you'll forget all about your heartburn. :-)

I had a scheduled c-section and as part of my pre-op appt they gave me an antacid to take the night before and morning of my surgery. I would call and ask.
LOL! I didn't see the time before I replied.
From miscarriages, a diagnosis of a bicornuate uterus, and fibroid removal surgery...It's been quite the journey but it was all well worth it.
