I should probably know this but for some reason I dont. Can someone tell me what the purpose of the PIO is? I hate that im injecting things into my body and have no clue what it is for. Thanks!
Progesterone helps build the lining during the cycle. Should you become pregnant, progesterone is needed to sustain a pregnancy so they're giving you a boost. Also, many women have miscarriages due to low progesterone, so they are trying to avoid that being any sort of problem.

I hope this is what you were asking about...If you mean specifically the oil version, I have no idea. Surely they could have come up with a more comfotable, efficient method by now!

Progesterone helps support the lining during the 2WW and a subsequent pregnancy if implantation occurs, at least until your body starts creating enough progesterone on its own to support the baby. HTH!

That is exactly what i was asking. I tried to google it but I kept reading that its used to bring on AF. That worried me for sec since im trying not to see her for at least the next 9 months ! Thanks you both for your help
When you ovulate on your own, the corpus letum (sp?) - which is the follicle that ruptures to release the egg - provides the body with enough progesterone to maintain your lining post ovulation and to help with implantation.
During IVF, your follicles do not rupture naturally, they are poked and the egg is sucked out at ER. Due to this, the corpus letum is very weak and does not know that your body has ovulated which can result in very low progesterone levels. PIO (or any other type of progesterone support) helps your body know what phase of your cycle you are in and mimics a normal leutal phase allowing you to maintain a good lining and have the best possible chances for implantation.
In the event of pregnancy, the placenta takes over progesterone production around 8-10 weeks.

I asked nurse about this and she said that there were different kinds of progesterone they use for different things. She said I could not use leftover IVF progesterone to induce an AF.

I am using the prometrium caps instead of the progesterone in oil, but I think they are both a form of progesterone. I think what I have is to bring on AF because they said the day I start taking them, I should expect AF about 3 days later, but I am not positive- I just do what they tell me
