Playtex drop-ins- a few questions...

We're trying these, and so far a few things I have questions about (maybe dumb questions)...

-how do you tell how much water to add, when the ounce marker is on the bottle and the liner isn't exactly in the same spot (if that makes sense)?

-do you get the air out first? Squeezing it out is kind of awkward, do you suck it out?

-If you do get the air out first, do you find you don't get all of the milk out of it? We just used it for the first time and found there's left over milk kind of stuck to the liner. Not a huge deal, but never had "wasted" milk with other bottles...

Thanks!

    Go by the liner marker

No need to get the air out first.

  • We go by the mark on the bottle and just make sure we tap it down so the liner fills out all the way.

We squeeze the air out usually but you don't have too.  We use an empty Ready to Feed bottle (the little 2 oz ones) like a plunger to push the air out.  It works great!  If milk gets trapped in the folds of the liner just move it around it will drip down.  It's not enough "wasted" formula to matter.

I love these bottles!  There is almost nothing to clean since it's just the nipple and liner that touch the milk.  It's great!

  • We had to use formula with DD until she would take BM from a bottle and asked about the water ?.  I was told by my pedi and the people at Playtex to measure the water in  a standard bottle or container.  So I used  a Medela bottle to pre measure the water and then put it into the bottle  with a liner.  If you check the bottle and liner can be off by more than an ounce.

I would squeeze the air out, then feed the baby.

This is what we did this first time, I was just wondering if we were being overly diligent.

    Thanks for the responses everyone!

  • I think the directions on the formula can say to measure the water then add the formula, but I fill all bottles with the powder formula and put the lid on them. Then when LO is hungry, I measure the water in a small measuring glass and pour it in, mix it with a spoon (I think shaking it creates too many air bubbles), then warm it. It makes it a little easier when LO is screaming to eat. :)

  • My SIL would pre measure 8 bottles every night.  She would leave them on the counter so they would be room temp.  I thought that was smart so she just had to add formula and go.
