Have you ever "Dined and Dashed"?

We accidentally did this once.. Dh thought I paid the bill and I thought he paid the bill... but we found out a few weeks later neither of us did, so we did Dine and Dash without realizing this. We felt really bad and called the restaurant and paid them back.. I hear this is common??? Anyway DH and I were just discussion this and I wanted to see how common this is.. I know random.

  • I never have but this reminds me of when I was a waitress and a guy asked for my number. He ended up running out on the bill with his friends and then had the nerve to call me and ask me out!!

  • No way!  When I worked as a waitress I had that happen to me and I chased the people out into the parking lot.  It is very rude!

  • I was with friends who did, once. I stayed a paid. I am such a loser. LOL
Seriously, though, I just couldn't do it. I figured the waitress would end up paying (not true, as I learned when it happened to me as a waitress...), and I felt really bad about that.

It happened to me as a waitress a couple of times. Usually, I just told the manager. But once, there was a homeless guy who came in and ordered a kids meal--he was counting out his change and it was all he could afford. I accidentally ordered the regular meal and when the check came, he panicked and snuck out when he thought I wasn't looking. I still feel bad for embarrasing him; it was an honest mistake on my part. I paid his bill and never said a word.

I never have..... I feel bad for the homeless guy too....  he was probably scared to go back to that restaurant also.  I was reading this and thinking you were going to tell him that since you ordered it wrong it was free!

  • Wow it sounds like it is pretty easy to get away with it.. that is awful really.I cant say i've ever heard of anything "bad" happening to someone that did it...
  • Nope. I have been close when I was running late, and had asked for the check 3 different times.
  • Depends on the restaurant. I used to work for red Robin and it happened all the time considering how many teens would come there to eat. The higher end restaurants Ive worked at rarely saw this because the sort of people going in had money to spend. When it did happen servers were written up  for it. I think it happens that people can forget to pay but is a rarity. That is good that you called the restaurant back to explain what happened..you may have saved someone's job

  • No way. I worked as a waitress for 6 years at Olive Garden and we were responsible for handling all cash. If someone walked out on us we could tell a manager but their policy was that if it happened more than once we would get written up and have disciplinary action to us. That was their policy because they did not want staff to tell their friends to come in and then the server tell the manager that the table just walked out. So in some restaurants the servers do get stuck with the bill.
