How do you handle screaming?

DS is in a screaming phase.  Everything he says, he SCREAMS it.  Ear piercing screaming, not just loud shouting.  Will this just go away once the novelty wears off?  He is 17 months and has experimented with his voice for a loooong time now, so I knwo it isn't just that he has discovered his ability to scream.  We try to just ignore it or tell him to "shhhh and use his indoor voice".  Neither is helping. What has worked for you?

I have screaming in stereo...they outscream each other. If its a nice day, I take them for a quick walk which usually quiets them down. Its tough...they usually wait to scream til I'm on the phone or trying to get them down for a nap.
