Advise Needed: Daycer Q, toddler room transition

So DS just moved to the toddler room and he seemed to be doing great the first few days and then yesterday they tell me "oh he was tired today" (in a voice that annoyed me like I had him out clubbing or something).  They had to bring him inside off the playground to take a nap.  Well I'm thinking he's forced to take one nap now instead of two so how long did it take your child to fully transition to this new change?  I also want to move him to daycare closer to our house but I want to wait until he's over this new change first.  Oh and should I only let him take one nap on the weekends or if he's tired just let him nap?  And he's started waking up at night now and I don't know if he's overtired or what.  I already pushed up his bedtime to 6:30 instead of 7pm.   Any advice, please.

  • Thought:  Maybe you should move him now?  Rather than let him adjust to the new room, then have another adjustment period to the new daycare?

  • I agree with pps, if you're going to move him, now's the time..before he gets comfortable there.

DD moved to the 12-18 month room at 10.5 months because she was using the little babies to pull up on and she was several months older than the next oldest baby. She was fine while she was at daycare from day 1 in the new room. When we got home, it was a different story. She was definitely over tired and very cranky.

I've started taking her for a walk right after work for about an hour and she naps in the stroller. She's awake by 7 and we eat dinner, play, give her a bath, etc. She goes down for the night between 8:30 and 9. This has really helped us..if she doesn't get a nap right after I pick her up, she is cranky all night!
  • While DD was transitioning to one nap at school, I still let her nap however she wanted on the weekend.  I thought she was too young for one nap, despite the school's policy.  So on the weekends she took 2 and during the week, she took one.  She needed to sleep, so I let her.

I do agree about moving him now instead of later.  Two transitions can be tough.
