Hi hoars, stopping by to give you the RE update.

It's bad.  Like really, really, really bad.  And it's not me.  It's H.

His sperm count is fine, good even.  But only 2% of those are considered viable.  The doc said around 250,000 are good.   The recommendation is direct egg insemination.  Problem is, you want around 1,000,000 to do that.  He's now on supplementation with L-carnitine to try to strengthen/improve his loser sperm.  He's also having bloodwork done next week, then will have to rewank in a cup in the office in July to see if there's any improvement.

We're looking at IVF later on in the year, hopefully.

I'm ragey, I'm sad, I'm pissed off (not at him, obviously, but at the situation itself).  This sucks.  A lot.

  • I am so sorry Bubbles. I know that this is devestating, even while now having a few answers.

You must be smirking just a teeny tiny smidgen. I mean, the whole situation blows chunks, but, you are perfect, and as always suspected, your DH is the one who is wonky.

    Right? Right?

  • Oh no!  I'm so sorry Bubbs!  How craptacular.  Hope your H's spermies bulk up and you get KTFU soon!
  • It's not ideal, but at least you know what the problem is, and can do something about it.

  • I'm glad you have an answer, finally.  However, that is not undermining how shitty the damn situations is.   Hope you get KTFU asap!    Those spermies needs to get their damn act together!

  • Sorry, sounds sucky. HUGS!  Hopefully the meds work quickly....and hugs for the hubs also - sorry that you guys have to go thru all this.
  • Aw, that sucks!!  So, is something like that a situation that may have deteriorated over time (since, of course, you have William...), or are they calling him a "miracle"??  Which, of course, he is anyway, but you know what I mean :)

  • I'm sorry Bubbly. We had IUI with our DD, then conceived naturally but lost that baby and then when it come to try again MH's boys were "abnormally shaped" - go figure this was never an issue before. We opted to go to IVF with PGD and we now have our precious boy.  Let me know if you have any questions.

  • So glad you have an answer.  Did they say his motility (movement) or morphology (shape) is the problem?  Either way, we faced something similar - low count and bad shape.  We did IVF and had enough eggs to do half with ICSI (egg insemination) and half let the sperm find the egg in the petri dish.  In our case, the second way fertilized better than the ICSI.  Definitely consider that if you get enough eggs.  IVF works so well these days - way better than IUI.  You'll be pg in no time.  Hang in there and I'm happy to answer any questions anytime about the process.  It sounds overwhelming but really, done one day at a time, not scary.

  • That sucks! But on the other side of this is that you have an answer and hopefully with the drugs his sperm count could improve to make some better swimmers. I wish you all the luck in the world! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. IF sucks!!!
  • So sorry. (((Hugs))). I just want us to catch a break.
