I don't get this

Flame if you want, but I don't get why adults would want to get married at a Disney park. Yeah, I know some women get off on the whole princess thing, but I honestly don't know a single straight man (because I do know a gay guy who would like this) who would be comfortable with a Disney wedding.

Re: I don't get this

  • I don't get it either, unless maybe the couple worked at Disney?

    Yeah, I could see that.
  • I LOVE Disney, always have.  I keep telling my husband that we should renew our vows there someday.

I would LOVE to do that!

What does he think of the idea?  My husband would laugh his a$$ off, but he can't tell Snow White from Goofy.

  • It wouldn't be my first choice for a wedding. Or for a honeymoon for that matter.

  • It wouldn't be my thing, but I wouldn't mind staying in the suite at the top of Cinderella's castle.
  • Joe's cousin got married there...in the Pavilion (I think that's what it is called).  It was her third marriage....I guess at that point, you just run out of ideas! ;)
I would say we are pretty big Disney fans but yea, getting married there?!  No thanks.  A vow renewal, maybe.  But even that's a stretch.

FWIW, Joe's cousin belongs to the Disney Vacation Club as well and got all of us our own rooms ....we just had to pay for airfare.  It was actually a beautiful ceremony and party.  But Mickey and Minnie came and danced with the guests at the reception....that's a bit.....I don't even know the word!  :)

(Her son was 6 at the time and loved every minute of it.)

  • Not that I would chose it, but have you seen their grounds for weddings?  They're beautiful.  They have a gorgeous chapel with an attached bridal suite and both sit on the water.  I could see people wanting to get married there even if they weren't Disney fanatics just because it's very pretty.

Now if there was a LOST wedding on a tropical island and Sawyer came and danced with me, I could get into it. But Mickey and Minnie in your wedding album seems weird to me.

  • Yeah, hmmm...NMS.  On the other hand I've never been there, so maybe I'm missing something.

I am totally with you on this. I went to Disney for the first time in March, what a letdown (although my expectations were pretty low to begin with). To me it's a big theme park in celebration of the mass consumerism of cheap, chinese-made novelty items. I really don't get it, nor could I get why anyone would want to get married there. But hey, to each their own. I'm not losing sleep over it or anything.

Can you tell me what let you down?  We want to go there with our girls in a few years...what did you not like?  Did Joey like it?

  • I actually don't even get the adults who come with no kids.  I went as a chaperone for my niece's class trip and I was bored numb.  It was fun when we took the kids because as a parent, you derive joy from their joy.  But as an adult, even if you rode only the bigger rides, it's about 3-4 hours of waiting in line for 20-30 minutes of ride.  We saw a lot of couples there without kids and I just didn't get it.

The elderly couples, I actually sort of understood.  Those seemed cute and sweet.

He just kind of laughs.  I'm kind of 1/2 serious and 1/2 joking.  I think it would be a lot of fun.  I've seen a number of shows on their weddings and they look amazing!

  • Also, one of my DH's all time favorite movies is Bambi so I think there is a chance I could convince him.  Wink

    Someday..............

  • I am not a Disney person at all.  I think it would be great if my kids get to go there once in their life but I would choose to take them a lot of other places first.  And I am not a wedding person at all.  That being said, I could totally see doing a Disney wedding.  I saw their brochure once when my cousin planned her wedding (she lives in orlando, so it would have just been a venue for her as opposed to the full on destination wedding.)  The majority of the "themes" were very sophisticated and elegant.  Only a few played up the cheesiness of the Disney with characters, etc.  And Disney is known for doing everything well.  With my aversion to getting all bride-y and planning weddings, I could totally see calling them up and saying "I'd like to oder one wedding please." Then I would sit back, let them do the whole thing and just show up in time to walk down the aisle.
  • I don't get it either.
  • Joe and I have gone without the kids.  But we also have a timeshare there so financially speaking, it made sense to go there for our adult get away (since the hotel is "already paid for").

It was fun.  We got to walk around the parks, ride on the rides, etc without worrying about two kids.

But we spent most of our time outside of the parks when it was just us.

  • I'm hoping my kids will never ask to go because I've been to Disney Land twice and World 4x and really, that's more than enough, I'm done, I hate them both.

    Epcot I could handle.

But a wedding?  Uhhhhhhhh no.  I ran off to vegas & eloped, I don't like weddings.  Yes, I'm a b*tch, tyvm.

  • Maybe it's because I've never been (well, went to whichever one is in CA when I was really little and have no memory of it), but I don't get the appeal of disney.  I mean, the movies are good, but I don't understand the rest of the craze.  I always think it's strange that people go to Disney for a honeymoon... for less money than Disney would have cost us we went to Italy and it was just amazing!

  • XH would have done it if I really wanted to, because he's a go-with-the-flow person. However, it is not in the Top 1,456,304 places I would get married.

  • Oh come on!!! You mean you don't think it is cool to walk around disney with a bride & groom set of mouse ears???!!!

    ;)
