Thursday Toddler Check-In

Hello Toddler Mamas! How is everyone today? Anything interesting to report from the week or perhaps you have fun plans for the weekend?

I also have a QOTD, if anyone wants to play along :o)

For those with B/G twins: I was talking with a MoM this morning at the park and she has B/G twins who are 3. She had painted her little girl's toenails pink and I commented on how adorable she looked and asked if her son had asked to have his done too. She looked at me like I had 10 heads and said, "I would never paint my son's toenails!" So this got me thinking - what would you do in this situation? Would you paint his nails or tell him no, because he's a boy? What would your DH say?

(If your children are B/B or G/G, feel free to comment too)

Re: Thursday Toddler Check-In

  • Personally, I would paint BabyBoy's toes. I see no reason not too - it's not like (in my opinion) doing so would "make him gay" or set him up for life as a cross-dresser. He's a little boy who doesn't have a concept of gender stereotypes yet and I say if he wants to, go for it. His dad, however, would likely disagree with me.
  • DS and I have our first Little Gym session on Saturday, I think I'm more excited then he is!

QOTD - I'm not really all for painting my little girls toes, I guess if she asked then that's different.

  • Started doing non-confinement timeouts this week. Started timeouts at 15 months for my girls and it has worked really well for me. I have always put them in the superyard for timeout to confine them since they did not have the concept of sitting on a spot for timeout. Well this week I had to do it. I was at my SIL's mothers house and Shayne would not stop walking on the furniture, which is a big no no for me no matter where we are. I gave her a warning and then she of course right away did it again. I put her on a spot and told her she was in time out for not sitting on the furniture. She got up about 3 times, but I stuck with it and she finally stayed put for the 1 1/2 min.

I had to do this one more time while there for throwing something at her sister and this time, she did not move once. Today was the first time I did this with her sister (who I knew was going to be more of a challange in this area) and I had to put her back like 5 times and then she got it and stayed put.

I am so proud of my girls and myself for following through. This is a big achievement for me because now I can finally get the superyard out of my family room. Big Smile

No big plans for the weekend, just a bday party for my BFF's second daughter.
