Babies: 3 - 6 Months

my l/o has Eczema

took l/o yesterday to Dr. for her 4 month visit and was told she has Eczema? I was told to use Aquaphor, does anyone know how long you have to treat it and is this something she will have her whole life?  What about swimming in a pool eventually?  Any feedback is much appreciated!

Re: my l/o has Eczema

  • Tooter has eczema on his face and when we first started treatment for it, it only took a few days to clear up.  Its something she'll have her entire life, but nowadays, I only have to apply his lotions when his cheeks start turning a little red and dry.

  • Aquaphor really helped Emme. We really coat her skin every evening after bath time with this. We haven't seen any issues since. You could try switching to a pure & natural baby soap too!

  • Our LO has some pretty bad eczema on his cheeks. We keep him loaded up with Aquafor whenever he has a flare up (which is almost constantly).  We'll spend days getting it back to clear white cheeks and the next day they'll go red again. The Pedi says that's typical of Eczema- unexplained flareups.

We avoid any products with fragrance. Keep the skin very moisturized. And don't let LO get overheated, which causes a flare up. Lukewarm bath, etc. We actually don't use any soap to clean his face at all - just wet washcloth.  Dr also suggested Cetaphil liquid cleanser because it doesn't foam, and therefore isn't drying.

  • I have eczema as well and I agree with what all the PPs said. It's possibly something he'll have his whole life, but it usually gets much, much better as you get older. Now, as an adult, I only get a little "flare up" every now and then, usually in the summer when it's super hot and sticky or in the winter when it's really dry. Not a big deal at all anymore!

  • Baby girl has eczema too. Dr. said DON'T use things called "lotions" but DO use "creams"  We use Triderma...

Twice a day.  Her skin feels baby soft again.  It's pricy but a tube lasts us about one month...In the scheme of  things, $15/month for piece of mind and happy baby = priceless:)
