Expiring car seats... chuck it?

Okay, so our infant carrier expires in December and has been used thoroughly for both girls since 2006. I do not want to sell it as really, what's the $5 gonna do for me?! And I cannot give it to a thrift store since they don't take used car seats.

Any other options other than just chucking it? That seems so wasteful for some reason, even though, like I said, it expires in December and it's been used for 2 babies...

  • Don't you know throwing out a car seat b/c of an expiration date is playing into scare tactics according to the all-knowing, Gibs. Anyhow, our thrifts stores take them but if yours don't & you don't want to bother with it just set it on the curb and watch. It will be gone in minutes.

  • Maybe check with a women's shelter? The one near me always needs baby stuff.

  • LOL, Belle... I was half hoping Gibs was here to chastise me.

What I find really odd, is that the State of CA does not have a recycling program for car seats like some other states have. If I was inclined and at all Erin Brokovich-ish, I would try and wage a campaign to start one.......

  • Or take it to the fire department so they can either cut it up or use it in car seat safety courses.
  • I held on to my expired car seat and was able to use it in the trade-in event at BRU. I was able to save good money on a new booster for DS that way.
