My poor DD has been suffering with this reflux crap for so long. We have been on Zantac then Prevacid and now Axid. From what I understand, Zantac and Axid is an H2 blocker and controls the acid in the stomach but doesnt prevent it from coming up. Prevacid is a PPI and what prevents it from coming up. My nurse friend said she should be taking both Axid and Prevacid to prevent BOTH since her reflux is so serious. But when I put a call into my Dr and explained this, the nurse said to just give her Axid, Dr's orders. Obviously i trust my Dr and will follow her orders but does anyone else know anything about giving babies both ?

Re: Anyone on Axid and/or Prevacid?
Just giving this stuff to our kids is dangerous enough - I would never double dip. My DH has GERD BAD! and is on Nexium only. My DS is on Omeprazole (not for reflux).
Having been to so many of these GI appointments I would have to say that the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) should be enough. A PPI will stop the production of acid, not stop it from coming up. I question what your nurse friend is telling you.
If you create an environment in your kid's stomach that is too basic (the opposite of acidic) it can cause even MORE problems than an acidic situation. I would just follow the doctor's orders. And, if all else fails request a referral to a pediatric GI specialist.
ETA: The H2 blockers also stop the stomach from producing more acid, but in a different biological/chemical way.
