We did a potluck. My parents cooked BBQ chicken and supplied the paperproducts and everyone else was asked to bring a side or a drink. Worked out well and we had wayyy more food than we needed.
I made brisket and then everyone else offered to bring something so then they all helped provide the rest of the meal. We had about 25 people for our dinner. You could always do something like pulled pork or even sloppy joes or something simple.
We are doing mini Salad sandwiches (Ham, Chicken, etc,,,) DIY style so they can add what ever they want to it. We arent doing booze either, just soda and koolaid
We are having DD Baptism this Sunday and it's HUGE! Both DH and I come from large families and it's not appropriate to not invite everyone to an event as big a deal as Christenings are!
We invited 150 people and have about 115 coming.....YAY! We are having beer, wine, soda, water, juice and tea cooler (although you could keep costs down by avoiding alcohol).
For the food we are having:
Roast beef sandwiches (I bought and made the roasts and my grandparents are slicing it for us because they have an industrial meat slicer)
Meatballs made by my MIL
Salad (provided by my dad and stepmom)
Rolls (provided by my dad and stepmom)
Fruit Salad (I'm making it)
Ziti (I'm making it)
Cake
Both my Mom and FIL were very generous and gave us money as well for everyone which honestly helped a TON! Dh and I both have divorced parents so the whole thing is awkward in and of itself and we needed to rent a hall to host the party because there wasn't a neutral location large enough for everyone, so I really appreciate all the help from family!
The majority was bought in bulk at Sam's Club. I usually whip up things from scratch, but considering I just didn't have the time to do all that, I just bought everything then jazzed it up a bit.
I'm with the PP, a brunch sounds good (bagels, fruit, juice, coffee).

Our parents are helping us out by providing most of the food, though we're making some as well. We have
ham
breakfast breads (strawberry bread & banana bread)
orange rolls
quiches
fruit platter
salad
fruit tart

Set a budget and stick with it. We had about 20 people come to our house after K's baptism earlier this month and this was our menu:
BBQ Pulled Pork, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Veggie Tray, Doritos, Potato Chips, Pop, Coffee, Cake
