So, since my DS was 9 weeks old he'd sleep anywhere between 5-9 hours straight at night before waking up to eat. This past week he has been waking up every 2-3 hours and he's waking up to eat every time! I am fine with that if that is what he needs... I'm just so tired again
I start work next week and was thankful he was sleeping so well..
Anyone else go through this at 3 1/2 months? Suggestions? Advice?
Thanks,
One tired momma!
Re: Need advice! DS went from sleeping 6-9 hrs in a row to waking up every 2-3 hours.. :(
Yes, we have been going through this for about 2 weeks and it is only getting progressively worse. It seems to be a typical thing on this board for babies that used to STTN to stop around 3-4 months. Here's my story (not sure if it will help you):
She used to only eat once at 3-4am but she started waking more and seemed to need to eat at least twice. Then she was getting out of the swaddle and started to roll so we had to un-swaddle. Then one night the pacifier stopped working to soothe her. The next night she would wake up 5 minutes after putting her down and then would fall asleep as soon as you picked her up to just wake up again when you put her down.
Last night she screamed her head off for an hour so we took her for a walk. She fell asleep in her car seat and we just let her stay there in our room. She actually slept 6 hours in the car seat! She ate at 2am and then went back to sleep in the bassinet until 6am. It was like her old self again except for the meltdown before bed. Since she only ate 2 ounces at 2am I am thinking that all those times we fed her multiple times in the night were not necessary. I think she can make it through the night again without eating more than once - maybe your LO doesn't need to either and there is something else causing him to wake up but the feeding soothes that need?
She is teething so it could be that but we have tried teething tablets and tylenol and neither seemed to work. I have tried dressing her lighter and heavier, feeding her, rocking her, patting her butt, etc. The last thing I think it could be is reflux b/c she has shown signs of it in the past but it was never bad enough to do anything. So tonight we are going to try the Nap Nanny.
Growth spurts can cause a baby to be hungry at night and wake up. You can try to increase each feed during the day so he is better tanked up for the night.
In fact many things cause a baby to change their sleep patterns over the first couple years - growth spurts, developmental changes (rolling, walking), emotional developments, teething.... Babies will start and stop STTN many, many times.
