Confession-BF related. Can't be the only one...

My LO has gotten so grabby when he's nursing, sometimes it really frustrates me. He will be pulling on my clothes, reaching up to grab my face, getting distracted, scratching me and even tickling me with his grabby hands and sometimes I just feel like I can't stand it, and want to scream.

Usually I think it's cute how he's all distracted and smiley and adorable, but every so often when I'm really tired, his tiny hands scratching and grabbing and pulling make me freak out. I feel awful about feeling this way.

Please tell me I'm not alone..?

  • sometimes it does semm more like wrestling. I hold hid hand and say 'no.' like he understands it or something....just to try to quell the thrashing a little bit. if he is really out of control i assume he isnt hungry and we stop.

  • I usually get annoyed when I am bf and DH is around.  DD will take a few sucks, look over to see if DH is still there, suck again, look again, suck again, look again, and on and on and on.

Usually this is when I take her off and hand her over to DH as she is obviously not that hungry.  When she is hungry doesn`t matter who is around her only focus is the boob

  • Just so you know...
It's not just BF babies.  It's bottle babies, too.  The lady at daycare has to swaddle DD to get her to take her bottle.  Otherwise, she's too distracted to eat all day long. It's ridiculous.

My girl did this to me last night.  Oh man, I finally said, "You are going to get the bottle if you don't behave."  So, I gave her the bottle; she sucked it down with no problems.  I swear during the week she likes the bottle more because that is what she has had all day long.  It sucks because then I have to pump an extra time.  :(

  • LO has also been increasingly distracted. I can only nurse him laying down in a dark quiet room (our bedroom). When i nurse him in the living room, he sucks a few times and turn away to look around constantly... sigh.. i guess it's good that he is so curious =)
  • I'm with you on this.  I have been getting pinched like crazy!  Those little hands are strong!

  • Yes, you're alone.  I'm kidding...I can def understand.  It doesn't bother me YET, but only time will tell.  As pp said, maybe try a dark quiet room.

If DS is extra grabby, I just give him my finger and he just holds that and plays with my hand.  It's much easier!

Oh so true!  My LO also grabs the bottle and pulls it in and out of his mouth.  I get so annoyed sometimes.  He definitely isn't focused anymore and it takes forever for him to eat.  But most of the time I think it is adorable and love it.  When I'm tired or in a hurry...yeah, that just isn't fun.

  • for me it is when she is barefoot---she loves not having her socks on and then she kicks me over and over.  but it is the same for me when DH is home....on and off over and over, makes me a little crazy at the end of the day.

  • Have you tried giving him a blanket/lovey to hold while nursing? Or going into a dark, quiet room to keep him from getting distracted? Lukas was doing something similar doing his morning feeds for two weeks but today was much better so maybe its just a stage (hopefully) :)

  • It does get annoying.  DS likes the nose grap.  He'll grab at my nose and pull/tug/squish away.  I just give him my finger and let him wrap his hand around it to distract him.
  • You are not alone at all! DS does this thing now where he will pull him self off, giggle, laugh and smile, then throw his head back at my breast. He also pinches and grabs and he does the arm pinwheel when he is really tired.
