Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby shivers

My LO occasionally gets the shakes/shivers and it definitely makes me feel alarmed. We've asked our pedi about it and she didn't seem overly concerned and just said to try to get it on video. I read somewhere that this can happen during a growth spurt when the nerves are catching up with the growth--or something like that. I've also read that something LO shiver while they pee. Anyone know anything or have a baby that does the occasional cold-like chill?

Re: Baby shivers

  • I dunno - Chloe does it too from time to time, almost like when she gets overexcited ... its weird tho, right?

  • DD does that... she also sometimes gets shaky when she first wakes up, especially if she's still pretty tired. I'm not concerned... don't know if I should be, but I'm not :)

  • DD does this when she tries new food.

  • Our LO does this too... I have noticed that a lot of the time she is going to the bathroom when she does it.

  • My LO does it when he BFs and falls asleep while he's still eating.  He doesn't do it that often but I was very concerned. Our pedi said he hears that alot and didn't seem worried about it.  It still bothers me when he does it though.
  • DD does this when she gets the "willies"...touching or seeing something that she thinks is weird or hasn't seen before. I was nervous at first too but now it's very noticeable that she does it when she's weirded out.

I've also read that they do it when they pee in their diaper so that could definitely be it too.

  • DS does it all the time too... sometimes when he's eating, but mostly when we put him in the bathtub.  I guess it's going into the warm water that gives him a chill.  DH always says "Shiver me Timbers"! LOL.  I wouldn't be worried about it... we get chills too.
  • When DD is really really excited or really really mad she shakes.

  • DS does it like the pp said when he is just waking up.  He looks a little startled by it too (then usually smiles and laughs) but it really just looks like a little shiver, not like a seizure or anything so I'm not worried.
  • Yes!  DD does this several times a day.  There's no draft and it's not cold.  We suspect they are pee-pee chills.  :)
