Anyone able to lower their cable bill by calling?

I was reading some money blog about how to save a few bucks here and there, and one post was about calling your cable company and just plain asking for a lower monthly rate.

We have cable and internet through Comcast, and I'm wondering if this trick actually works.  Has anyone done it and been successful?

worked with time warner... they brought it down to the intro rate...  we've had comcast in the past and frankly, they suck.

I know they basically can because Dan frequently gets our bill lowered or upgraded by making friends with the Comcast vendors through his job. It never hurts to ask. Maybe have a lower rate from the competition so they know what you're thinking of. Find a good deal through ATT, Dish, etc and ask if they can do anything comparable. Maybe they won't lower your bill but they might give you a free/lower cost upgrade?

I called and got ours lowered by 15.00 a month but had to resign a 1 year contract (verbally).

worked with Direct TV, we asked to have certain channels removed, it didn't take a huge chuck out of our bill, but every little bit helps.

I saved 75 bucks! I just told them to come get their equipment out of my house and we were going with the dish network. We actually got more channels and saved 75.00 on cable and internet- we now pay 115 with Charter.

yup--I just did it today with setting up service for our new house. its actually saving us $25/month for the next 2 years. definitely worth a shot! 

the lady at verizon also told me that once our two years is up to call verizon's "retention" dept and see what kind of promos they're running.

Ugh!  Would somebody PLEASE give me lessons in this?  I tried this with Time Warner and they did nothing.  I said we were looking to drop cable because of the cost.  All they offered was the All in One which you have to have the cable phone for.  We are not up for that because when your power goes out so does your cable.

I tried and they didn't offer a lower rate.  I was able to lower it by turning in a box that we never used, dropping one tier that we never watched, and lowering our internet speed (I can't tell a difference).  It lowered our bill by about $30 a month.

We have satellite, and DH has gotten our rates lowered.  Nothing crazy, but we have had it for several years and now they have new "special offers."  So he called and asked for the new special rate and they gave it to him.
