Babies: 3 - 6 Months

6 month old.. just started actually eating solids.. how much?

I know there are some of you who hate these questions, but I am going to ask it anyway in  hopes that someone was once as confused as I am.

I have finally gotten DD to eat solids, and now I amnot sure how much and how often I should be giving it to her?

What did you all do?

Thanks!

  • I havent started fruits or veggies yet, but we do cereal. I first started with 1 tbsp of cereal (mixed with formula, or bm, til soupy). He loved it. We just did it at his last feeding. We did that for about 2 weeks, and we just started 2 tbsp before bed. (He still gets a 6 oz bottle too) Its much thicker now.

Next week we will start veggies, and then introduce fruits after that. I just do cereal before bed for now. : )

  • Start with 1-2 Tbsp. once a day.  Then in about a week or so if LO is interested you can increase to twice a day.  Make sure LO is still getting plenty of BM or formula.  Solids should not replace the meal, in fact feed the solids after the BM or formula.

  • Thank you. I was trying to figure out if I was giving her too much. I was doing 2 times a day until she didn't want anymore.. I will start measuring and see if that helps.

    Thanks!

  • We are just starting this week too. We started with oatmeal (1 tbsp mixed with an ounce or two of BM). The first day she seemed to like it, the next 4 days she wouldnt eat any of it. Today I switched to sweet potatoes (I baked them and then put them in the food processor and then froze them in the ice cube like trays). I gave her one cube (which I think is like 1 tbsp) and mixed with an ounce of BM. She still wasnt into it. I want to give up for a while, but feel like she should be eating something now that she will be 6 months this weeken.
