I've never used a diaper service, but washing and stuffing diapers takes maybe an hour of my time each week. Since BM is water soluble, I just throw the poopy diapers in the washer as-is. Once DD starts solids it may take more time/effort, but for now, it's not a pain at all.
We've signed up for the service for the first couple of months. I'll let you know how it goes. I don't think it's a big deal to wash my own, but DH really wanted to hand over that responsibility the first couple of months. Thankfully we got a couple of months paid for as a present!!
I used a service the first three months of DS#1's life. It was nice--you left your dirties on the doorstep on a certain day of the week, and they picked them up and left you a bag of clean diapers. I was very overwhelmed as a new mother, so not having to worry about CD laundry helped me tremendously. Once I got into more of a routine, I ordered my own CDs and cancelled the service.
I've wondered about this too. Of course we aren't pregnant yet, but I want to CD and I've been using the TTC time to research things like this. How do you wash them? It kind of seems to be a hassle based on some websites but people on here seem to have no hassle at all. Tips?
We didn't use a service, but we also held off on starting CDs until ~2 months. We wanted to use a O/S diaper so we waited until she had some "chunk" to fit the diapers and it gave us a couple months (with her in disposables) to adjust to parenthood.

If you BF, then you just put the entire diaper in the wash. BM is water soluble so it cleans off during your rinse cycle. If you FF and/or once solids are introduced, you will have to "shake the poo" off the diaper before putting them into your diaper pail/wash. I've heard horror stories about scraping poo and/or needing to use diaper sprayers....we've been lucky and her poo is always pretty solid so we just shake it into the toilet. Once they go into the wash, it's pretty simple - cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse. It's a lot easier than I ever imagined...seriously.

I've seriously thought about doing this for the exact same reason. It's nice to hear about the success from someone else. Thanks Miller

That does sound easier than the other sites I've visited make it seem. Thanks!
