Adoption

Just wanted to tell you about myself

Hi! My husband and I are expecting our first child in Oct. I've always wanted to adopt, and be a foster home. We love kids, and can't wait to get the process started. I think I will start the process a year after the baby is born. I have a big heart for those who don't have families. My husband and I have been married since Nov 10, 2007. I'm still very young, but I don't party, drink or smoke. I'll be 20 next month, but I can't wait to have a big family. I grew up with 5 siblings, maybe thats why I want so many kids ;)

  • Welcome to the board!

We are foster parents (do have not have biological children of our own).  My first recommendation is talk to the counties and agencies (both) in your area and find which will be a better match for you and your husband.  I live in Missouri as well, and there are both the county DFS and private agencies that have the foster care contracts. We found, that the agencies work better with our personality, our life style and our needs.

I noticed it says you live on an airforce base...are you allowed to foster with one member of the couple in the military?  I had a friend who was told she was not allowed to.  Just food for thought.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, these ladies are great :)

  • Thanks. I'm not sure, I haven't completly looked into it. I think it would be wrong for them to turn down the military. My husband is the only one in the military. Thanks for all the advice though. I appericate it. :)

The one issue I can see with fostering is that the state may be worried about the possibility of you suddenly moving out of state on military orders, and then the foster child needing to go to a new placement.  But that is definitely a question for your state child welfare agency.

    Welcome!

  • That may be true, but with my husbands job, he doesn't deploy and he can only go to certin bases, but we have to be at one base a whole contract. which in his case is 6 years. So, I would think they would be able to find a parent willing to adopt the kid. But I can see what you are saying.

THIS.  This is the reason they stated.

  • Welcome!  Looking forward to hearing and seeing more of you!
