Trying to Get Pregnant

Timing of ovulation ?

I'm curious as to how much variation you guys experience in your ovulation dates each cycle.  For example, do a lot of you ovulate pretty consistently on a certain cycle day each month (or within the same 2 day range) or do a lot of you ovulate anywhere between, for example, CD 15 and CD 22?

This is my third cycle charting and the first 2 months I ovulated around CD18.... this month i'm on CD21 and still no positive OPK or evidence of impending ovulation.

 Thanks

Re: Timing of ovulation ?

  • For most people, the timing of O can vary, but they have a solid luteal phase.

My O used to be day 16-18 before DS, and has been moving around since then. As late as CD42.

  • Loading the player...
  • I never ovulated without the assistance of Clomid so this is only my 2nd cycle with an O. CD 17 both times for me
  • When I was TTA and then TTC #1, I normally O'd from CD16-CD22. Somehow I O'd on CD11 on the cycle I got pregnant with DS.

Recently, I've O'd on CD12, CD16 and CD19... so it still varies for me.  I'm anticipating that I'll O this weekend, based on other fertility signs, but my body could definitely trick me and not O until much later.

  • I've ovulated from cd13-21. each month is a day or two longer than the one before.

So if O can vary but the luteal phase is usually solid (which I assume means that it is consistently the same length), does that mean that it is the length of the entire cycle itself that will vary?  In other words, if someone ovulates on CD 14 one month and CD 17 the next month and they typically have a 12 day luteal phase, will the first cycle just be 3 days shorter than the second cycle?  I know it's not an exact science, but i'm just trying to make sure I have a general understanding.
