probably dumb question but I'll ask anyway

Do kids get sore throats with out it being a symptom to something more severe? DS just woke up today saying the very back of his mouth hurts.  I looked and really don't see anything but keep thinking what if he is getting MHF or strep or something.  I am leaving for las vegas on friday and taking the kids to my parents tonight so trying to be proactive.

  • Allergies or a runny/stuffy nose can cause a sore throat.  I always have a sore throat when my allergies act up, and its all from post-nasal drip.

  • I was just thinking that, I just remember he sneezed yesterday and the amount of snot that came shotting out of the kid was crazy.  He seems to be eating fine and I did give him motrin to help any pain. I probably wouldn't worry at all if it wasn't for me heading out soon.

  • Yeah, I would say allergies or dry air. I found DS sleeping on his back the other night, chin back and mouth wide open. He woke up and said his throat hurt. I think it dried out all night.
  • Make sure you leave copies of your insurance cards and a note giving your parents permission to take him to the pedi or urgent care if the need arises.  I'm thinking more like post nasal drip.  Ask him later if the back of his mouth still hurts.
  • I agree it sounds like post nasal drip and a dry throat.  I always have a sore throat this time of year when I get up in the morning.  I am so stuffy from my allergies that my mouth is open at night and it gets dry and sore.
