Sleeping Advice Please

I'm having a hell of a time sleeping.  I just can't do it.  I'm up every hour and a half.  And it's not always because I have to pee.  I'm uncomfortable (either my hip hurts or my shoulder from always sleeping on my side).  And even to roll over, I have to get out of bed and flop on the other side.  Just rolling over on my back hurts.  And even if I roll over just a little bit, I feel like I'm being squished.

I just can't take it anymore.  I woke up this morning holding back the tears.  I'm so tired and I just can't sleep.  This didn't happen with DD.

I would take having a newborn anyday before having this.  At least I'll be comfortable!!!!

Re: Sleeping Advice Please

  • I hear you.  I've been a lot more uncomfortable this time around.  I get up every night around 3am to sleep on the couch in a semi upright position just to give my side a break.  You are so close to the finish line...hang in there! :)

  • I am not sleeping through anymore either. I have terrible pelvic pain and just changing position causes my hips to pop and I get shooting pain in my hooha.

I don't have any advise but just wanted to let you know you're not alone :-(

  • UGH!  I know how you feel.  I feel like I am up every hour to two hours not being able to sleep from being uncomfortable.  I can never seem to get comfortable on my side.  I have tried the body pillow and that just doesnt seem to work either.  So I feel your pain and would like to see if anyone has any ideas!
  • I was having the same problem, but I've found that using a bunch of pillows takes the strain off my back and shoulders and is more comfortable. I put one between my knees and one right under my belly to support it. Plus I have two under my head to control the heartburn. It's kinda funny how much room it takes up, but it does work, and thats what matters.

  • I told my husband this morning that I cannot continue like this.  For the last 3 weeks, I've been up at least once an hour.  I don't know how I'm managing to function through the day at this point.

I also said it's worse than having a newborn.  At least when the newborn sleeps for 2-3 hours straight, I'll be able to comfortably sleep for part of that time.  Anything is better than what I have going on right now - and I don't remember it being this way when pregnant with DD.

  • I could've written this same exact post. I hope we're both able to get a bit of comfort here soon.

I know we're "supposed" to sleep on our sides, but I foudn sometimes that if I pile 2 pillows under my butt, and a few to make me incline (practically sleeping sitting up) I'm a bit more comfortable.  I've also heard people sleeping in recliners.  I tried it but was just as uncomfortable.

Sleeping with a snoogle isn't even helping me so I dont know if I'm going to get any relief at all.

  • I know it's horrible to suggest taking meds when you don't need them, but I sometimes take benadryl (which is on my dr's approved meds list).  I also suffer from allergies, but occasionally take benadryl even when I dont need it for that just because I desperately need sleep.

  • I tend to end up on the couch most nights. I don't know if it's the cushiness or the fact that my head is up higher due to the arm rests but it works for me. It's the only place where I can lay somewhat on my back without being in pain.
  • i'm sorry you are having a hard time sleeping.  Last night i tried to shove pillows on all sides of me and it seemed to work better than what i had been doing.  I only woke up twice and once was to pee.  (that is a record for me) so either the pillows worked or I was so tired because I hadn't slept, i am not sure. Good luck.

  • I was that way with Brady.  I found that if I took some tylenol and a warm bath (and sometimes benadrly as well) before bed helped me to fall into a deeper sleep.  My hips were killing me, so I took our old down comforter and folded it up so it was just under my side of the bed and extra soft...that helped a bit as well.  I also slept on one of our air mattresses from time to time because it was so bad and that was the only place I was comfortable...not too easy to get up from though!  GL!

  • I'm with ya!  Seriously, I think I'm hearing EVERY sound all night long.  I feel like I'm not sleeping, get up every hour to hour and a half.  Takes forever to fall back asleep.  My arms and/or hands seem to be falling asleep no matter what!  Plus, I can't seem to shut my brain off and relax.  I keep thinking of things I need to do both at work and home.

I've decided to start sleeping with my iPod.  I'm hoping that will help shut my brain off enough to fall asleep sooner.  Now - if I can just remember that decision - before I go upstairs and get in bed!

  • I gave in and finally bought a 4 inch memory foam topper for our sleep number bed. Best money I EVER spent. If I didnt have to pee every 2 hours, I am convinced I wouldn't wake up at all! My shoulders and  hips feel a lot better! I thought walmart was sold out when I went to get one and I almost started crying, telling my husband I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! Maybe something like this would work for you?
