Do you make DC practice extracurricular activities outside of the class?

For example if DC does dance, do you make them practice at home before the recital?

DD did a school recital/program and I commented to another mom that her DD did really well, she said "Oh we practiced a lot."  My DD showed me her routine (little dance to one of the Lion King songs) a couple of times but I never MADE her practice.  What do you do?

  • Avery takes dance and will practice some steps at home, but never the full routine.  And both twins are in soccer, which we play for fun at home, but my focus isn't "practice" really, though I will show them where on the foot to kick the ball, etc.

  • DS plays hockey right now and is starting tball soon. He loves to play at home with DH. We never make him practice, but DH will teach him how to hold the stick, to keep his eye on the ball, etc when they're playing. It's never forced.
  • No, we don't practice at home.  (My DD is in dance)
  • ML is in ballet and has a recital in a month.  I just figured, based on my nieces' performances when they were this age, that the younger classes just sort of pranced around, while someone on the side sort of queued them.  So no, we don't practice.  I don't even know what her dance is.  I'm sure we'll practice if/when she gets serious about it, but com'n, she's 4 (today!).
  • YES!

How do you think you get better at something?
