Summer Baby - PJs?

LO is due June 5th and I'm wondering what I should plan on having him sleep in.  I have a TON of onesies and only a few footed sleepers.  Should I get a few more sleepers? I don't want him to be too hot in the Houston heat.

Re: Summer Baby - PJs?

  • Unless y'all are camping out, it depends on how cool you keep your house.  Would you be comfortable sleeping in just a t-shirt w/out covers?  Our house is usually pretty cool at night so I expect we'll use footed sleepers year round.  Smile

  • Last summer we had DS sleep in footed pj's every night.  This summer now that he is one we are doing s/s shirt and short sets.
  • we used footed sleepers last summer and will this summer.  Mainly because we like to sleep with the windows open and don't want a stray mosquito getting in and biting her (learned that the hard way.)

Yep.  Only difference was when Sam was a newborn, he stayed swaddled pretty well, so we just put him in either a snap shirt and a diaper, or a onesie.  Once he broke out of the swaddle, we kept him in footie PJs, because my husband is secretly an Eskimo, with the way he keeps the A/C.

Exactly.  If your baby is going to be swaddled, footie PJs aren't necessarily necessary, unless your house is super-cold.  Cameron sleeps swaddled, and with the warmer weather, we recently stopped putting him in PJs at night - now he sleeps in a onesie or a snap shirt.

Also, I read (I think in Baby 411) and have found it to be true that most babies sweat buckets when they sleep, so don't be surprised if you find yourself with a sweaty baby regardless.

  • Thanks ladies!  He will be sleeping in our room for the first few months (at least that is the plan) and we don't keep it super cold at night.  Hopefully he will like to be swaddled!  I'm going to pick up a few more sleepers just to be prepared.

  • We've been doing a t-shirt, diaper, and a Halo sleep sack. DS is comfortable and it is easier to change his diaper in the middle of the night.
