drinks!!!
Okay, this is totally NPR so flame away. Plus most of you can't stand me, so flame away. But for the few of you who are bored enough to want to answer, please tell me your favorites and your DH's favorites in each of these categories since I am throwing a party (yes, I do have friends IRL!) and am planning the drinks. It will be a warm summer late-afternoon-into-the-night outdoor party (no kids invited!) with a Mexican buffet, and there will already be a margarita machine as well, if that influences your drink choices
(1) Favorite soda
(2) Favorite kind/brand/vintage of wine
(3) Favorite kind/brand of beer
(4) Top 3 favorite mixed drinks/cocktails

Since this IS my fave subject and all.....I feel obliged to answer!
(1) Favorite soda....diet Coke
(2) Favorite kind/brand/vintage of wine....I don't drink red. For white, I like Frontera Chardonnay and Luna di Luna (Original (the BIG blue bottle!))
(3) Favorite kind/brand of beer.... Joe's a Bud Light drinker. Bud Light bottles to be exact. I am LOVING the flavored Mich Ultras....Dragonfruit Peach, Pomegranate Raspberry, Cactus Lime, Citrus something or other. My stand-by is Miller Lite bottle. (Beer is one of those things that is very specific to the crowd you run in. We are not conneissuer (sp) by any means!)
(4) Top 3 favorite mixed drinks/cocktails.....you can't go wrong with a gin, rum and vodka. Have tonic, sprite, and coke available. And limes!
But if you want MY faves...
diet sprite with any flavored vodka (usually raspberry)
Malibu baybreeze (malibu rum, pineapple juice and cranberry juice) You can skip the cranberry and just have malibu and pineapple
And not so much for summer time but Cap'n and Diet Coke is a good standby!
My favorite soda is Diet 7 up or Diet coke
LOVE some Prosecco (sparkling white wine, pretty dry) LOVE some Pinot Noir. Castlegate pino noir is good.
LOVE Blue Moon. But, Miller Lite is the most commonly liked--- good for when trying to pick just one kind of beer.
I dont have just 3 types of cocktail, because, as you can already see, I am a bit of a lush, BUT...
I am not sure what it is called, I made it up.
1 shot bacardi limon (ok, who am I kidding, 2 shots)

Also, a perfect drink to make in bulk is sangria.
I feel like I'm in some sort of alternate universe. This is such a...normal post.
1. Diet Coke
2. N/A. I don't like wine.
3. N/A. I don't like beer. H likes Bud Light, though.
4. Margaritas (which you mentioned you're already having, so we'd be good there.) H likes Captain & Coke. I like Brandy Slush or something equally fruity (and, of course, high calorie).
I have to second the Sangria. Yum!
1. Diet Pepsi for me, Root Beer for the hubs
2. Pinot noir. Yum. No particular brand.. just ANY pinot after a long day will do...
3. Corona. Esp. w/a Mexican buffet. The hubs likes Modela (?) or Dos Equis
4. mojito / cubra libra (again for the mex theme) / raspberry vodka & 7Up (but the last time I ordered that at a bar, the raspberry vodka was hidden and I felt like a total douche hag mom that never gets out! lol)
I love sangria. It does not love me though.
Mojito's are pretty mean to me too, but I keep going back for more punishment.
Soda - we will both drink pretty much anything. Maybe Dr. Pepper?
Wine - for a party I would probably just do sangria (white and red) since it's spring/summer now. But I love Pinot Noir (red, any brand really) and Sauvignon Blanc (white, any brand). It seems at parties though people usually have Chardonnay and Merlot.
Beer - MH likes dark beers, like Newcastle. I like Killians, Guinness, Blue Moon and some local beers. For more generic brands, Budweiser probably wins. Oh and if you've ever had Lambic beers, they are delish (there's raspberry, cherry, apple, and peach I think). I buy them at Trader Joe's. Fat Tire and Yuengling are good too.
Mixed Drinks - margaritas, bourbon and coke, cranberry/vodka
I prefer beer or sangria, probably though. If I'm boozing. Deer booze, I miss you. xoxo, eclaires

2. Markham Merlot...or really any red wine. But, for your occasion some nice chilled whites would be perfect
3. If I were at your particular party I would be totally in the mood for some Corona w/ lime
4. Mojitos would be perfect (yum yum yum)

3. Olde Peninsula Pumpkin Ale

2. I like Beringer white zin...but LOVE Lambrusco and it is cheap, cheap, cheap! Tastes like Kool-aid to me.

If you want to go with a non-sweet or caloric...you could do unsweetened iced tea. I'll take that over soda most times.

(2) Favorite kind/brand/vintage of wine - Real wine drinkers are usually very picky. I like Cline Cabernet or maybe a chardonnay from Napa
(3) Favorite kind/brand of beer - With Mexican, you have to go with Corona with a slice of lime. Or Dos Equis.
(4) Top 3 favorite mixed drinks/cocktails - I love a beer margarita. I had one at a friend's fiesta last weekend and it was fab.
I would suggest vodka, rum, and gin. Add in tonic, 7 up, coke, limes and lemons and most can find something that they can drink.

my suggestion... for a large party... limit it to one signature mixed drink that fits the theme of the party and then a nonalcoholic drink (iced tea is a great option for a mid day party, soda is pretty common though). maybe some beer if it's a super casual party... maybe 2 wine options if it's more of a cocktail party. don't try to do it all. no need to have a full bar.

4. for mixed drinks i would go with rum and coke, captains and sprite, vodka and cranberry, and then some other mixers.
(1) Me: Diet Coke, Diet Cherry Coke or Coke Zero MH Diet Pepsi
(2) Zinfandel or pretty much any dry, crisp white
(3) Me: Heineken Light MH: Fat Tire or Guiness
(4) Mandarin 7, Mojito, frozen rum punch
