paci at night

does anyone use a paci at night?

Any tips on breaking DD of it? She screams every time she spits it out. Its getting real old, fast.

Re: paci at night

  • DD only uses a paci for naps, if then, so not sure how to help...but GL.  DD gets upset when her's falls out at nap time...which is why I take it out of her mouth when she is deep in sleep.  Hey, maybe you can do that??

  • not sure! I don't put DD down w/ paci, but if she starts waking in the early morning hours I give it to her to put her back to sleep for a few hours.  There have been many mornings where I am constantly putting it back in.  Lately, she keeps it in and spits it out when falling asleep and is content with that.
  • We weaned him of the paci because he'd wake up practically rolling over looking for it and he hadn't even rolled over yet. He doesn't use it anymore. Some times he falls asleep on his own now but some times requires a little bit of rocking. Overall, he's doing so much better and sleeping better as well.
  • My DD only takes her paci to sleep, and actually she only sucks on it while she's drifting off...then she spits it out and falls asleep.

I did have this problem with my first, but she was a little older. And in her case I littered the crib with binkies so she could find one herself because she was literally waking 3-5 times a night jsut for a binky.

There is an exercise you can do. When my LO was awake and had the binky in his mouth, I would tug on it as if I was pulling it out. Not wanting it out of his mouth, he would suck harder to prevent it from coming out. This strengthened his suction power. As he would drift off to sleep, the binky would start to come out and he'd suck it back in. Worked really well.

Now, I'm happy to say, he rarely uses it. I put him to bed awake and without the binky. I keep the binky for church and other "emergencies" but, usually he finds his hands, knuckles and teething toys much more interesting.
