Still not sure what to do re helmet or band

I posted last week about how EI and PT said I should have Lo evaluated for the helmet or band so, yesterday at his Pedi apt I asked her and she said that she thought he was only boarder line.  That his face and every was very symmetrical.  She said he was still young so we could wait and see how he does.  He's 6 months actual and 4 months adjusted.  Anyone else have this and what did you so.

You could take your LO to a specialist and see what they think.  At least for a 2nd opinion.  We took Ava to the plastic surgeon at our childrens hospital and he took one look at her and said she needed it.  But she did have some facial asymmetry.  She got her helmet at 7 mths actual, 5 1/2 adj.  It cant hurt to get a 2nd opinion.

we went to a pediatric neurosurgeon for jeffry, and his was borderline as well with no facial assymetry.  we're doing the wait and see approach, since he's upright more now.

I would call your pedi and ask if there is someone they can refer you to in order to have an evaluation. The pedi isn't really a specialist in that area. Our pedi sent us to the PT, who in turn is sending us to Scottish Rite to have a catscan-thing to determine the need for a helmet. DD also has no facial assymetry.

Does your son go to PT regularly? They can also give you a referral. DD is 6 months adjusted and the PT wants to get a helmet soon if the test shows she needs it. Good luck!

They both gave me a referal to the same company Cranial Technology which is the company that makes the Doc band and helmet.  I'm worried that if i go there the closest one is 1 1/2 hour a way that since they sell it that there going to tell me to get it even if he doesn't really need it.  He was going weekly for PT for Torticolis but, after this week the PT say we don't have to come back for a month and that might be our last vist since he's doing so well.  Maybe I'll wait till we go back and see what the PT says by than he'll just be 5 months adjusted.

I agree with you - In your case I'd wait and see what the PT says in a month. I've also heard that once torticollis is resolved, sometimes the flat spots will fix themselves, so hopefully your PT will tell you it's improving next month!

I agree that a 2nd opinion can't hurt, but it's too bad that your referral is to the helmet company, we were referred to a pediatric plastic/neuro surgeon.

If you decide to wait it out - continue to reposition him when napping, at night, in his infant seat, etc.  Also, tummy time, tummy time, tummy time...sometimes easier said then done, DS hated tummy time.  We did try repositioning, but it never failed that 2 minutes later he was back on his flat spot - therefore it didn't work for us.
