  • Once you get things moving, I highly recommend taking 2 fibers pills at least 1x a day (2x if you need it).  That and some fiber one bran buds in my yogurt every morning are really helping to keep the constipation at bay this time.

  • I had to take a stool softener (docusate sodium) with both of my pregnancies. Fun times. Taking it daily really does help and is completely safe.
  • I had a glass of metamucil 3x a day.  Worked wonders.
  • I had major problems with this towards the end of my pregnancy (plus I was on an iron supplement which didn't help matters). I ate 4 prunes a day and had one Activia yougurt per day as well. If things got really bad, I would also have some Miralax, but I try to stay with the natural choices before I go with anything else.

Good luck. Keeping up with the prunes and yougurt every day, really helped me a ton.

  • I'm a L&D and postpartum nurse and wanted to let you know that it's perfectly safe to take docusate sodium (stool softener) 100mg twice daily.  I'd take it twice a day until you have a regular bm and then you probably won't need it as much.
