If your DC goes to an in home daycare...

I work outside the home very part time so I started watching another little boy here a few times a week to make some extra money.  Recently a friend of mine told me that I should have a copy of the child's insurance cards and a letter from his mom that allows me to make medical decisions in case of an emergency .  I feel stupid for not thinking of this.  Did you do this?  Is there anything else I am missing?  How was the letter worded?  Thank you so much.

  • DS goes to an in-home 2 days a week, but it is fully licensed so has to use the state approved forms/documents. I don't recall exactly how it was worded, but we deinitely signed off on allowing our caregiver to give CPR if needed, had to list any approved medications she could give him (including Tylenol - we also had to approve diaper cream when he was younger), a waiver allowing her or her teachers to take him of the premises for outings and approve of the method of transportation (stroller, car, etc). Also lists of emergency contacts, we had to sign a form listing who could pick him up, etc.

  • Like Devon said, and we had copies of their insurance card, a paper stating where they should go (Children's hospital), and a copy of DS's antibiotic requirement prior to procedure (he had a heart defect).

I think its important to prepare for the worst - hopefully you'll never need it!
