Hi!
Just this past week we've transitioned DS to his crib. Things are going well except for the swaddle.
We use the Halo sleep sack/swaddle for newborns. He's a huge arm mover so we thought that pinning those thimgs down while he sleeps would help him stay asleep, and it seems to be working great.
However...I am terrified of the swaddle itself. One night, he had broken free and the swaddle itself had come up over his mouth in his sleep. Yikes!
Then, I made sure the next night to place the swaddle lower (farther down from his neck/face) and really velcro it down, including the side velcro tabs, to prevent it from riding up. He didn't break free but by morning the front of the swaddle was bunched up against his neck, it really looked like it could have choked him.
I know this thing is supposed to be super safe but I am not impressed. And yet, it does help him sleep. I know he would break free from a regular swaddle using receiving blankets. I need a solution that swaddles his arms but won't keep me up at night fearing he will suffocate or be strangled.
Help??!!
Re: Moms who swaddle (especially with Halo) come in...
we use the swaddle me - it velcros but doesn't slide up - it's one piece
LOVE IT
We also use the Swaddleme's and have had great success. My DD wiggles out of receiving blankets no matter how tightly I wrap her.
I'm glad to hear this feedback on the Halo though because I just ordered one to try out. My DD is outgrowing the small size swaddleme so I thought I would try the larger Halo for more versatility later on without the swaddle.
Cheaper and much safer: This is a video on how to do the "escape proof swaddle" and it works!

Ditto. Awesome!
The Halo SleepSack Swaddle is meant for soothing infants and is an easy, safe and effective way to swaddle. Experts suggest that once your infant shows signs of rolling over or is overly active at night parents should discontinue swaddling. It sounds as though your son is working hard to get his hands free. Perhaps he is trying to self soothe with his hands. You might consider swaddling him with his arms out of the swaddle where the swaddle band is positioned under his arms. This is often an effective way to transition babies out of swaddling. Or, it may be time to use the SleepSack wearable blanket without the swaddle wrap.
