Trying to Get Pregnant

Going off the bc pill

DH and I just got back from the doctor and have officially decided to start ttc! :)  The only problem is that I am 7 days into my cycle of bc pills.  Do I just stop taking them, or should I wait until I finish?  I feel like I should wait, but I've been waiting 2 years for him to say lets go, and 21 more days is a long time to wait!  I just don't want to do anything that would mess with my hormones too much. TIA for any help!

TTC #1 since 4/10; Diagnosed with PCOS 11/10 by RE; BFP 6/11, heard the heartbeat twice. no heartbeat on 7/13/11, d&c the next day @ 9 weeks 2 days. BFP 1/30/12 from IUI, triplets confirmed at 6 weeks. Everything is great until I had pPROM, delivered the next day at 22 weeks 6 days. 1 was stillborn, 2 lived for a short time. • I reccomend waiting until you finish the active pills. Stopping mid-way through can really throw your body for a loop. I'd start taking prenatals now and get into the habit of temping if you plan to chart while you're waiting for the end of the back.

  • I would wait....I've heard girls say that it can really mess with your body to stop mid cycle.  Heck your hormones will be messed up stopping at the end of a pack so I would want to make things worse.

You don't have to take the placebo pills so technically it's less then 21 days you have to wait :)

  • Definitely wait and finish this pack. Your body can have a hard enough time adjusting to being off the pill. You don't want to complicate things more. If you haven't read Taking Charge of Your Fertility yet, do. It really helped me in coming off the pill. I was on it so long, I had no memory of my cycles off it and it helped to know what to expect. Remember too that it can take 6 months for your body to adjust but hopefully it won't take that long adn you'll have a BFP in no time. Good luck!

  • I took my nuva ring out two weeks before I was "supposed to" because we just couldn't wait anymore to start TTC.  I got my period three days later, but everything SEEMS to be in order and I'm on my 3rd cycle after BC.  I'm sure it varies from person to person, but I think I've heard that the hormones from the BC leave your system pretty darned quick.  So, personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much.  JMO

  • Embrace the next 21 days as "patience practice."  You will need it while trying to conceive.

    Yes

  • I took three pills of a new pack and then decided to stop ( I didn't think three pills would really matter).  I got AF three days later and a messed up remainder of the cycle (long time to O and a really short LP).  So in hindsight I would have finished the package.
  • Ditto PPs on the main reasons for waiting it out.

Use the rest of the month to look at all of your habits and lifestyle and see if there are things you need/want to change. I took my last month to get myself on my migraine meds that I can't take while pregnant, start PNVs, and wean myself off coffee.

Have some patience and good luck!

This. I had stopped mid-pack and it totally threw my body off. Definitely wait it out and start prenatals. Your body will thank you :)

  • Thank you so much for your quick replies!  I have decided to wait.  I am going to pick up my prescription for the prenatal vitams, and will spend the next 3 weeks learning what charting is!  I'm sure I'll be lurking around here in the mean time, and will def be back in 3 weeks!  Good luck to all of you!

Also, the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility was a real eye-opener.  There was so much about my body that I didn't know about!

The newbie post was posted a bit ago, but I also have it in my siggy.  I know it really helped me when I was just getting started.

    Good luck!
