Breastfeeding

not emptying the breast

I have a great supply and Tessa rarely empties a breast (I alternate for feedings).  I'm concerned she's not getting the hindmilk.  Do you think I should just pump?

She eats every 3 hrs or so through the day but in the evening, she eats like every 1.5hr.  But she sleeps well @ night - like 8-9hrs w/ only one feeding.

Re: not emptying the breast

  • Are you seeing signs that she's not getting hindmilk?  Green poop, extra gassy, etc, etc?  If not, then I wouldn't worry about it.

It may feel like your breast isn't 'empty' but if she's not showing any other symptoms and is doing well, then I'd say she's getting enough hindmilk.

It sounds like she is getting enough based on that feeding schedule. I wouldn't try pumping instead... if you just continue to nurse your supply should suit her needs just fine.
  • Every few days she DOES have green poop.  Hmmmm...I'll bring it up to the Pedi.
