Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Question about weaning off formula-

My LO is 11 months old and my pedi told me that at 12 months, she should be off formula totally and I should give her a bottle of milk at bedtime. I give her about 8 oz of juice and about 16 oz of milk a day right now. My question is, what should I give her besides the juice during the day when she's a year?  What did you do?? TIA!

Re: Question about weaning off formula-

  • DS gets milk and water during the day. That's it. There's really no need for juice.

  • We're in a quandary about this ourselves right now...she's off formula completely, but still gets a minimum of 2 1/2 bottles of milk a day. Yesterday she took 4 bottles of milk and 3/4 a sippy cup of milk with dinner. I really don't know what to do to 'phase out' the additional bottles of milk. She eats decent meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner too.

Sorry I can't be of much help!

  • We do milk only, water if I think she is just thirsty. There is no real need for a 1 yr old to get juice IMO, E's pedi agrees. As far as weaning, Emmalee went cold turkey off of formula and did not have a problem.
  • DD will not drink plain water.  We mix apple juice and water 1/2 and 1/2.  She drinks 3-4 of those a day.  And about 12-16 oz milk.
