3rd Trimester

Losing my breath.

Just wondering if anyone else has this...

Sometimes when I'm sleeping, I'll wake up gasping for air.  Well, gasping is a strong word....but it feels like someone took my breath away for a second.  It's only been happening the past few weeks and not every night.  I usually just reposition and go back to sleep.

Anyone else have this? I assume it's because the weight of the baby or something.

Re: Losing my breath.

  • Sounds like you could have sleep apnea which can sometimes develop during pregnancy. I would definately talk to your doctor.

  • This has been happenning to me this past week although I did have a cold and had sinus congestion.  I usually need to get up and walk around and take deep breaths.  The same thing happenned to me with my first pregnancy in the ninth month and I chalked it up to anxiety.  I normally don't suffer from it but would wake up with that feeling and be thinking of all the things I had left to do before the baby came.  After I had DD it never happnned again until this past week so I am not sure if it is anxiety/nerves or from my cold but it has happenned twice to me.
  • I was feeling a little short of breath when LO was higher - propping two pillows under my head at night made a big difference, I guess just changing the angle of the airflow.
  • My BH's have been pretty strong and when I am laying down and get one I have to take a couple of deep breaths. Is your stomach tightening at the same time? If it is, its just braxton hicks.
