I give DD a full spectrum of real solid foods at every meal: steamed veggies, fruit, shredded meat, whatever we're eating.
She tries some of it and spits most of it out. She'll really only eat cheerios and puffs (which I give to her after about 10 minutes of her "trying" the other food). When I find something she likes I try to keep giving it, but she doesn't seem to consistently eat it. She won't take purees anymore, or anything else she can't eat by herself.
She's been upping the amount of formula to compensate. Anyone else in the same boat?
Re: My baby only eats cheerios.
Yup. When she sees the cheerios (or oat knock offs with no wheat as the case may be), she shakes and kicks her legs she's so excited.
She'll eat some other things but it's much more hit or miss- like frozen waffles (again knock off no wheat variety), apples, pears, blueberries, and craisins. Really, she's just good at the fruits. She'll also eat some veggies, but so far hasn't gotten into the meats, although I offer them. She also refuses (and has nearly always refused) 99% of purees. She did really good with them for about a 2 week period. I have no idea how she's going to be on only table foods at a year.
You just have to keep plugging along and offering foods. Some babies are more resistant to new foods/tastes/textures. My son is like this. As a baby, he ate pureed foods forever, though, because he it was what he liked and felt normal to him. There were very few foods he'd self-feed well into his toddler months. I could spoon-feed him really soft, creamy foods occasionally. Anyway, as you can see in my siggy, he's a strapping young lad who hasn't wasted away from his picky diet (yet!)
I know how frustrating it is for you! My advice is to keep introducing the healthy foods you want her to eat. If she's hungry she'll eat it. Don't offer the cheerios so quickly and maybe consider just as a snack after she's finished a bottle so she doesn't equate them with meals. Try to stretch out the time between her last bottle and her next solid meal so she's hungry and keep at it. Good luck!
