Just because you don't know anyone who is conjoined doesn't mean it isn't just as offensive as the word retarded. I explained in the below post were the word originated from.

I had no idea that Siamese was offensive. Like none whatsoever. But really? Who gives a feck about that? Not nearly the same thing as "Retard".
Apparently I am ignorant as well. Oh well. like I always say, "Ignorance is bliss"
I completely agree with this.
Ditto this. And since I think of myself as fairly worldly and still know not one person from Siam and would have to venture an educated quess as to where it is located, I am really not all that worried about insulting them. But I probably would use the term conjoined just because it sounds like the more educated term.

While they may have plied their "trade" in the sideshow world, they were their OWN managers.
Once they had enough money, they bought a plantation, owned slaves (pretty good for a non-white) and were quite prosperous for a time (at least until they lost in the Confederate War).
So when I think of the term, I think of two highly sucessful men who used their "disability" (the term is used lightly) to the best of their abilities. Something EVERYONE is supposed to do with their lives.
